The Yamaha R3 and the MT 03 are one of India’s most awaited motorcycles. Since the launch of the R15 V3 and the MT15, customers have been eager for the launch of superior models. Now, finally, the wait is over as Yamaha has officially shared the timeline for these bikes.
Einshin Chihana, chairman of Yamaha India during a recent interaction shared that the Yamaha MT-03 and the faired sibling R3 will join the Indian lineup by the end of FY-23-24.

Yamaha R3 2023
The R15 series is a huge success for Yamaha now and the craze for the bike is still growing. Considering which brand is ready to launch the most anticipated Yamaha R3. Though the brand has planned to bring the bikes to India in CBU form. However, eventually, Yamaha will shift to CKD production.
As per the earlier versions’ price, we expect the price of the Yamaha R3 in India to be between 3-4 lakh. However, there is no further information is shared on the expected price till now. The specs sheet might remain the same with a 321 cc parallel-twin engine producing 42 hp at 10,750 rpm and 29.5 Nm torque at 9,000 rpm.
The Yamaha R3 (2023) is set to have all LED lights with an LCD display and slipper clutch. The price could vary based on the market situation as other brands have offered competitive pricing in the same segment.
Yamaha MT-03 2023
The predecessor of the Yamaha MT-03 is already in the market and is getting a great response. The MT 15 offers exactly what the Indian audience requires from a 150 cc motorcycle. Now the upgrade can be an option for all the loyal customers of Yamaha in India.
Instead of looking out for an upgrade in other brands, they can ideally look out at the Naked 300+ cc motorcycle of Yamaha. The MT-03 would be a direct competitor of the Duke series, Triumph Speed and Scrambler series.
The specs sheet is more or less similar to the R3. It is expected to have the same all-LED setup as the R3. The launch date is still a question mark, as there is no hint on when the Indian audience can expect the Naked Ruler of Yamaha.
Our Expectation
Considering the growing competition in the 300 cc + segment, Yamaha will introduce the bikes soon. However, the major question would be the pricing, as Harley and Triumph have already introduced bikes at very competitive pricing to make an impact in the market.
The CBU strategy can affect the pricing for bikes in India. To be successful in the market, the bike should fall between 3-4 lakh brackets. If the brand fails to do so, then the older brands would be preferred.
Or, if Yamaha introduced some of the world-class features in the bikes which no brand in India is offering. Let’s hope for the best for the brand and the audience.

Yamaha as a brand in India has a great customer base. The reliability of the engine and perfect product catalogue has helped the brand gain the trust of the customer. With the catalogue ending on the 150 cc segment, it is time for Yamaha to introduce their 300 cc + bikes in the Indian market.
