Hyundai Exter has been finally revealed as the direct competition to the Tata Punch, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. Exter price starts from 5.99 lakh and is available in petrol and CNG options.

Hyundai has finally revealed its micro SUV Exter for the Indian market. For automobile enthusiasts, it is great to see that brands are competing with the bare minimum of margins for gaining customers and providing value-for-money vehicles.

Earlier in the micro SUV category, we had three options, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and Tata Punch. Now witnessing the market and demand, Hyundai has launched Exter with similar pricing to the Grand i10 Nios, but this is a micro SUV which customers wanted from Hyundai.

The Exter is available in Petrol and CNG options. While the petrol variants have options for manual and automatic transmission. The 1.2l Kappa engine of Hyundai offers decent power and torque for a family car. However, the brand has also worked on the CNG engine to produce a similar performance.

Key Features of the Hyundai Exter

Hyundai Exter Exterior
  • Dual-Display Dashcam
  • Sunroof with Voice Commands
  • Wireless Phone Charging
  • 8-inch infotainment system
  • 6 Airbags
  • Cruise Control

Exterior

From the outside, the car has to offer a great combination of futuristic yet the boxy look which the majority of the micro SUV offer. Complying with the regulations in India, there is very little scope for advancements, but Hyundai has well performed in that sense.

You get daytime running lights that too in an H shape, similar to the tail lamps. It also comes with halogen fog lamps and bulbs in the rear lamps instead of LED, but that can be compromised in this budget.

Overall, the look and feel of the car is amazing, it is taller than the Tata Punch and being under 4 meter it is 3.8 m long which is decent.

Interiors

Hyundai Exter Interior

The Exter offers so much at a very budget-friendly pricing which is just amazing for Indian audiences. The instrumental cluster is fully digital and comes with a tyre pressure monitoring system as well. Alongside, it has an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system similar to Kia Sonet.

The seats are pretty comfortable and it offers ample space for a family to enjoy trips and long drives. From a safety perspective, the car is equipped with a dash cam which records both inside and outside while driving and can also be used for taking pictures/ videos while on a drive. The Hyundai Exter is the only car in the segment which comes with 6 airbags. Though the safety is not tested yet, we can assume it to have more than 3 stars.

Conclusion

What do you think about the Hyundai Exter? Can it compete with the Tata Punch? According to me, the car is a great deal for families who are looking to purchase their first car or upgrade from a hatchback. It can be a great choice, the only concern would be the maintenance cost of this car. Hyundai has matched the pricing of Tata, but will it be able to match the service and maintenance cost too?
